Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was a panelist as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Ronald Reagan many times to summits and debate topics such as the Iran Contra controversy.
